RII30920 – Certificate III in civil construction

This qualification reflects the role of individuals working as skilled operators in civil construction, who apply a broad range of skills in varied work contexts, using some discretion and judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge. The individual may provide theoretical advice and support a team.
The qualification applies to specialist occupations in bituminous surfacing, bridge construction and maintenance, pipe laying, road construction and maintenance, road marking, tunnel construction, timber bridge construction and maintenance, traffic management and general civil construction occupations.

Description

The qualification has core and elective competency units covering the skills for the following eight (8) specialist and one (1) general civil construction specialisations. The following are the offered by Noble Training:
  • Specialisation 1 – Bituminous Surfacing
  • (Not Available ) Specialisation 2 – Bridge Construction and Maintenance
  • Specialisation 3 – Pipe Laying
  • Specialisation 4 – Road Construction and Maintenance
  • (Not Available under USER CHOICE PROGRAM ) Specialisation 9 – Civil Construction General
There are prerequisites to imported units listed in this qualification. Where a unit is imported as an elective care must be taken to ensure that all prerequisites specified are complied with.

To be awarded Certificate III in Civil Construction (Bituminous Surfacing) the following packaging rules apply:

  • Total number of units = 25
  • 8 core units plus
  • 17 elective units, of which:
    • at least four (4) must be chosen from the electives in Group A and/or Group B
    • up to nine (9) may be chosen from the electives in Group C
    • up to four (4) may be chosen from the electives listed below, elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.

To be awarded Certificate III in Civil Construction (Bridge Construction and Maintenance) the following packaging rules apply:

  • Total number of units = 26
  • 8 core units plus
  • 18 elective units, of which:
    • eight (8) must be chosen from Group D
    • at least two (2) must be chosen from Group E
    • at least three (3) must be chosen from Group F
    • up to four (4) may be chosen from the electives listed below, elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.

To be awarded Certificate III in Civil Construction (Pipe Laying) the following packaging rules apply:

  • Total number of units = 26
  • 8 core units plus
  • 18 elective units, of which:
    • ten (10) must be chosen from Group G
    • at least one (1) must be chosen from Group H
    • at least three (3) must be chosen from Group I
    • up to three (3) may be chosen from the electives below, elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.

To be awarded Certificate III in Civil Construction (General) the following packaging rules apply:

  • Total number of units = 25
  • 8 core units plus
  • 17 elective units, of which:
    • at least four (4) must be chosen from one of Groups YA-YK
    • at least ten (10) must be chosen from Group Z
    • up to three (3) may be chosen from the electives listed below, elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course
    • at least five (5) of the seventeen (17) elective units chosen must have a numerical code beginning with 3.
