RIIMPO319E – Conduct backhoe/loader operations

About this course

This nationally accredited short course covers the skills and knowledge required to operate, load, haul and dump materials using an articulated haul truck, and applies to those who work in operational roles across a range of industries.  This unit derives from the RII30820 – Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations.

Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to operate a backhoe/loader to load, distribute and place materials.

  • This unit applies to those working in site-based roles.

Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors, and must be sourced from state jurisdictions before applying this unit.

Jurisdiction: This is a nationally recognised qualification that qualifies you to safely operate a backhoe/loader. Under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 You no longer need to hold an earthmoving or particular crane (EPC) certificate to operate a Front-end loader/backhoe.

Licence: You do not need a specific license to operate a backhoe under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011. However, where a certificate is no longer required for earth-moving activities, the PCBU has a primary duty of care duty under the Act to ensure that workers are trained and competent to do this work safely; this unit can and may be used to satisfy some of the requirements.
